The military FAMAS has spawned several clones, and we are taking a look at each one of them today. First up is the Cybergun AEG airsoft FAMAS – a normal commercial production piece, but this one is surplus brought into the US by Navy Arms. It was used by the French National Police as a training tool – pretty neat. Second is the GIAT “Commando”, a CO2-powered FAMAS pellet rifle introduced in 1987. Third if the Unique F11, an X51 Bis semiautomatic.22 rifle inside a FAMAS-shaped shell, made in small numbers in 1983.

He starts at airsoft, goes over .22lr, then suddenly stops at .308 and withholds us the badly needed information on the .338 Lapua Magnum and .400 Nitro Express versions.
I am amused at the idea of a .400 Nitro Express version of the FAMAS.
Of course, I was also amused by the .458 Winchester Magnum M1 Garand, but then again… I’m easily amused.
One in .408 Cheytac would also be entertaining.
Short of building one in 12.7 x 99, the ultimate “yeet cannon”.

I feel sure there was a civilian FAMAS in .222 Remington, with a longer barrel, for sale in jurisdictions where “military calibres” were prohibited. I only mention it as a way of persuading our host to get hold of one and try it out.
