CZ has started shipping the CZ75 Legend, a reissue of the original short frame CZ75 pistol. This was the first production model of the gun, with only about 16,000 made in the late 1970s and very scarce and expensive today. The reissue was done to commemorate the 50th anniversary of CZ75 production, and it is very well done. The guns replicate the original model is almost every details, and use basically Shadow 2 fire control parts. The only two details that really bug me are the matte finish (instead oft he original high-polish blue) and the use of a rear sight with painter dots, coupled with a (proper) blank front sight. Overall, though, the Legend is an excellent opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to get a short-frame CZ for a quite fair price.

So how do the people running the BUG matches define a proper backup gun? I do appreciate that they allow all the silliness Ian pulls. Makes for episodes that are both entertaining and informative.

This club’s rules are not too fussy. I found the rules for other clubs that are quite anal. Very picky rules about barrel length, overall dimensions, allowed caliber, and weight of gun. I have a feeling that matches at those clubs are not as fun as where Ian goes.

Did not CZ extend the slide rails to extend durability? Weren’t the succeeding models also a little more accurate? Are you buying a more original but less accurate pistol that will wear out a little sooner? If anyone out there actually knows …
Those questions are debated heatedly on a lot of CZ-75 fan sites and forums.
I honestly don’t know; I think that the longer rails are better, but… Objectively answering that question? I’ve no idea how to do it, short of destructive testing that I don’t have the money to do. The fact that the factory thought it was worth the effort? I think that’s probably what you could call “a sign”.
There are a bunch of “improvements” to various weapons over the years. Some good, some bad, some done for actual user feedback justifications, some done to save money, and some to make life easier for all involved. Which are which? Your mileage may vary.
