The current Russian service pistol is the PYa, or MP-443 “Grach”, and it is (or was) made for civilian sales as the Baikal MP-446C “Viking”. The gun was adopted by the Russian Federation to replace the PM Makarov in 2003, although it took many years to actually get into production and widespread issue.
Mechanically, this is a pretty basic and unexciting pistol – although military pistols really should not be exciting pieces. A standard service sidearm really just needs to function reliably, and the PYa design appears to do that just fine. In military service it’s chambered for a high-pressure 7N21 9x19mm cartridge, while the civilian version here has a lighter barrel and slide and it only rated for standard 9×19 Parabellum.

What novel in this gun is, launching the cartridge in chamber through “Push Feed” manner… Like all other Russian service pistols excepting Tokarev… It can be seen oval shaped breech front face recess and the extractor at top controlling the freeding in that kind of tilted barrel pistol.
Odd that a Russian company would use the model name “Viking”. There is a real turmoil within the history of the development of Russian culture concerning the Vikings. The Russian purists reject the idea that Norse raiders and traders had an impact on the development of Russian culture. The purist insist upon Russian culture being only Slavic in origin, rather than a hybrid of Norse/Slavic influences.
“Purists” views are not officially accepted in the Russian history academia.

Half the Russians rejected Viking heritage. The others all claim to be at least part Viking.
It is debated, but influence is non-deniable in archeological evidence. How much mixing there was is unknown (and practically impossible to know), but there were clear cultural influences.
Gnezdovo finds are probably best examples.
What would be interesting I think, is to find out “Ginger or otherwise” is there any accent difference in Russia at Scotch relevant latitude, to more southern Russians… And thus is it air pressure, what causes accents.
