Book Review – From Balkans to Babylon: Zastava AKs of Yugoslavia, Serbia, and Iraq

“From Balkans to Babylon” by Vladimir Onokoy is a new book from Safar Publishing about Zastava AKs. It covers both the original Zastava guns made in Yugoslavia, the post-breakup production in Serbia, and also the licensed production in Iraq under the name Tabuk. Onokoy has a long history of interest in Zastava rifles and also many years of experience working int he field as an armorer in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. This has given him a tremendous amount of practical firsthand experience with these guns (among others). The book is a combination of a general history of the models from the early M64 prototypes through the most recent commercial export models and also a memoir of working with them in a variety of conflict zones.

At the time of recording, it is available direct from Safar Publishing for $69.
