Where I Shop for Clothes & Gear (and why it’s Varusteleka)

I’ve been wearing Varusteleka clothing in my daily life and using their military kit for many years now, because t’swell made, high quality, and comfortable. They very much fit the Nordic stereotype of “buy once, cry once” and making things that will last a lifetime. They have just recently relaunched a new web store, which you should check out:

And hey, if you are interested in some good Forgotten Weapons merch, they do that for me as well:

Disclaimer: The company gave me the items I bought in this video. They did not fly me to Finland to pick them up though; I was already there for filming and research – so stay tuned for an awesome book on Finnish small arms and videos on Finnish sniper rifles (among many other things)!

  1. How will the tariffs affect what you bring back. I know when I tried to order one of your patches, they would not send it to me because it was made in China.

  2. Ian, great info. I am Minnesota based. I’ve been using their gear for years. They make exceptional knives. I’ve used mine for hacking heavy brush /small trees. Greatly applaud their made in Finland, Estonia, etc. Ordering – How to manage navigating the increased tariffs and shipping? Help!
YOUR videos and expertise greatly appreciated. I would like a signed copy of your new book on Finnish rifles/weapons. I have several Finnish mosin nagant rifles. Keep up what you are doing. Great

  3. So do I. Or rather – did, as I now have everything that I need. Their own products are not cheap, but you pay for a very high quality, even if this is (or rather was) made in China. Quite a lot of their stuff is now made at the eastern flank of NATO, and is made solidly; hopefully as solid as the NATO resistance will be, when time comes.

They have a very good and very friendly user service which – however bizarrely may it sound – in case of a dispute takes the side of a buyer(!). They did surprise me; twice!

This being said, they seemed to have shifted their profile from mostly-surplus to mostly-new-merchandise of their own making. Which is good or bad, depending on what you want. But weirdly charming things like a replacement for my 1990’s Canadian Army snowshoes, a Polish Army greatcoat and other military curiosa gradually disappeared from their offer…

  4. NATO resists Russia so, in a generation, Muslims and Africans rule Europe. Quite the strategy there , Clausewitz
