I am excited to announce that I will be leading a WW1 battlefield tour in Belgium and France (mostly France) September 7-15 of 2019. It is being run by Military History Tours, who have more than 30 years experience running worldwide military tours, and I will be acting as tour historian for the trip.
The organizing theme is to follow the war chronologically, learning about how it progressed over the years. It was truly World War One that brought the world from volley fire in standing lines to modern small unit tactics and mechanized warfare. We will be visiting museums, forts, battlefields, monuments, and more – this is an opportunity to experience the history in a way that you only can be being at the places where the cataclysms like Ypres, Verdun, and Belleau Wood actually happened.
The tour cost is $3,375, which covers all lodging, tickets, entrance fees, transportation, and about half of the meals for the week. It does not include airfare – we will begin in Brussels and conclude in Paris (a great opportunity to spend a few days in the City of Lights!). I am French, living in France, so it’s not a tour I can be part of and I already saw most of what it offers, although I’d be glad to meet you Ian and Americans willing to visit my country and learn about our common history.
When you’ll make a stop in Paris and if at that point you are free from the tour, I would be honored to serve as a translator and a guide for you guys from oversee.

In this 100 year anniversary of the end of the Great War… Nobody on U.K T.V “that I recollect” mentioned zat ze Germans made a piece offer in early 1917. I only just found out about it… And it led to some more info… Mainly regarding U.K politics at the time, but… I am bit, sad nobody mentioned it.
It was interesting, the Landsdowne letters etc what I found out, Lloyd George, Asquith, our “German” monarchy etc. Public knowledge, sure… But hidden unless you look, and maybe 2018 was a good time to look.
Just because it did actually happen, and nobody knows I don’t think now. Kind of propoganda, not to; so it can’t be discussed, like they are covering it up really.
(I read why we said no, to it… But I think it is worth discussing in more detail, given with hindsight Hitler took over; with serious WW1 beef)
Which a lot of “suppressed” Germans still have today, if you don’t know, just beneath the surface.

I won’t go on, but if… Well the world may have been very different, wasn’t Verdun etc enough. Perhaps “we” should have stopped it.

Britain was just one partner in an alliance whose members had undertaken on 5 September 1914 not to conclude a separate peace and also not even to consider any peace-offer without previous consultations.
Fits to classic definition of “apologist”. In fact they were instigators and promoters of war (see previous reference I pointed to). This is NOT material Ian would preach on site of WWI carnage. Very counterproductive 🙂
